Grade Types Configuration

⚠️ This section is available to School Administrators and Principals only.

Overview

The Grade Types section ("Settings""Grade Types") allows school administrators to define and configure grading categories used in the Journal. Each grade type represents a specific type of academic work or assessment, such as class participation, topic assessment, semester grade, listening, notebook review, etc.

Proper grade type configuration is essential for accurate grade display in the Journal, correct semester grade calculations, and report generation.

How to Add a New Grade Type

  1. Navigate to "Settings""Grade Types".
  2. Click the "Add" button in the upper-right corner of the page.
  3. The new grade type creation form will open. Fill in the required fields:
    - Type (will be displayed in the lesson column in the Journal under the lesson date if the "Short Name" field is left empty);
    - Short Name (will be displayed in the lesson column in the Journal under the lesson date);
    - "Is it a Default Type?" (when enabled, this grade type will automatically appear in the header of lesson date columns in the Journal whenever new lesson columns or lessons are created, for example, "Class Participation");
    - "Display in Journal?" (displays the grade type name instead of the date in the right-hand section of the PDF Journal where lesson content is described);
    - "Is this a Competency?"; See the user guideline Assigning Competencies under the NUS Curriculum;
    - "Is used when calculating the semester?";
    - Competency Description (if creating a new competency);
    - Show within Subjects;
    - Map to Subject;
    - Parent grade type (the main group of results to which this grade type belongs, if related to NUS competencies);
    - Tags (selected from a dropdown list of tags previously created by an administrator). See the user guideline Tags.
  4. Click "Submit".
  5. The new grade type will become available for selection when entering class information in the Journal. See the user guideline Student Performance Journal → Grade Types.

How to Edit a Grade Type

  1. Navigate to "Settings""Grade Types".
  2. Find the required grade type.
  3. Click "Edit" to the right of the corresponding grade type (or open the context menu using the blue arrow button and select "Edit").
  4. Make the necessary changes and click "Submit".

How to Remove a Grade Type

  1. Navigate to "Settings""Grade Types".
  2. Find the required grade type in the list.
  3. Click the blue context menu button to the right of the grade type.
  4. Select "Remove".
  5. Confirm the deletion.

ℹ️ Note:
Only custom grade types can be deleted. System grade types that are provided by default cannot be removed.

ℹ️ Note:
If you want to change a grade type in the Journal for a specific class and it is not an attestation column, you can do so, even if grades have already been entered in that column. However, if the column contains an attestation grade type such as "Topic Assessment", "Semester", or "Annual Grade" and grades have already been entered, the grade type cannot be changed while those grades remain in the cells. You must first clear all grades from the column and then change the grade type in the class column header.
